So it turns out I wasn’t being totally incompetent when trying to fix my wheel yesterday. The rim had actually spilt so there wasn’t much I could do (although that’s probably something I probably should have noticed).
This means I now have a new wheel….
I owe a huge thank you to Kyle and Showers Pass for basically looking after me and sorting the whole thing out whilst I was in Portland; and also to the guys at Universal Cycles who brought my bike back to life (very quickly as well).
The fact that I still managed to ride over 90 miles today is all thanks to these guys as I would have been totally lost without them.
I also want to thank Tim who joined me on the road once I got going again. He provided some very welcome company and excluding the 40 kilometres to Portland this morning, I think he probably ended up riding further than I did.
It’s difficult to express how grateful I am in these updates, but I really do mean it.
I think my new wheel is a bit heavier but hopefully that won’t affect me too much as I’m heading over the Rockies tomorrow.
I’m now in Washington (state) so that’s it for me in Oregon. I don’t have much else to say right now but I’m feeling much better about things than I was last night.
Distance: 92.6 miles / 148.9 km
Riding Time: 6:23:43
Av. Speed: 14.5 mph / 23.2 kph
So you managed to stress your rear wheel, must be all that excess weight you are carrying around that waistline of yours. Glad that Portland managed to get you sorted.
