Day 141 – Williston to Minot

Ok it’s another late night so this has to be another quick update..

Today is the 4th of July and I had been slightly apprehensive about whether that would make things harder; but instead the opposite happened. The roads were almost empty all day, so riding on the main road wasn’t actually that bad.

The temperature was nowhere near as high as the last few days but there are a few storms brewing and the air was noticeably more humid/muggy.

The wind was coming from the south today which meant a crosswind. Not too detrimental but definitely not helpful.

Another fairly long day tomorrow and somehow I doubt I’ll get away very early…

Excluding my lack of efficiency, the reason I’m so late tonight is that I had to change my tyres around (the rear one wears faster than the front). Actually, speaking of ‘wear’, that reminds me of a joke….

*Two nuns sitting in a bath*
One says to the other: “Where’s the soap?”
The second nun replies: “Yes it does, doesn’t it!”

….Anyway, moving swiftly on, I’m off to bed.

Distance: 126.8 miles / 204.1 km
Riding Time: 8:36:29
Av. Speed: 14.7 mph / 23.7 kph

  1. Just catching up on your last few days which seem to have had a few issues. You need the lows to make the good bits better. Also the shoes melting story can be embellished in any book you write, the title of which must include the word wind. Chris I am sure will come up with something witty and slightly inappropriate for a title.
Your trip just shows just how big America is. I have been trying to find the places you stay on a map but it isn’t always that simple as the same names are used all over the country. I was seriously impressed when I found one town somewhere near the east coast but my joy for you was shortlived as it was the wrong one. Even so you are doing brilliantly.
